Many of you may not know that before I made sewing my small business, I dabbled in making jewelry! So these Easter egg earrings are a marriage of two crafts that I love.
Use up some of your tiny fabric scraps to make these charming quilty easter egg earrings. They are lightweight and addicting to make, and so unique! Everyone is going to comment on how cute they are!
Never made jewelry before? Don’t worry, these are SO easy.

- Lightweight Fabric Scraps (quilting cotton is ideal)
- Craft Felt – 2 pieces about 1.5″x2.5″ each
- Paper and pen (to make your pattern)
- Coordinating thread
- Pinking Shears (Optional but adds a nice touch)
- 2 Earring hooks (They look like this, you can get them at any craft store, amazon, etsy, walmart, michaels, etc. OR you can steal two off old earrings you don’t use anymore)
- 2 6 mm (or larger if you want) Jump Rings (These are little metal rings that connect jewelry pieces. You can get them at any craft store.)

How To Make Scrappy Easter Egg Earrings
Note: These screenshots come from my video tutorial, I apologize for the close ups of my hands! π
Step 1. Make An Egg Template
You can make these earrings as big or small as you want! It is easy to make your own template.
Fold your piece of paper in half, and draw half an egg on the fold. Cut it out, then open it. This makes sure it is symmetrical on both sides. You can trim it to adjust the shape or size or try a few times until you get one you like.
OR you can google “egg outline” and print it off at the size you like.
I made my egg about 1.25 inches wide and 2 inches tall.
Step 2. Cut The Felt
Use your egg template to cut out two pieces of felt. These will be the backs of your earrings.

Step 3. Sew Fabric Strips
The number and size of your strips will depend on how big you are making your earrings. Cut the strips at least 3 times as long as your egg template is wide. And make the strips as thick as you want, the thinner they are, the more stripes will fit on the eggs.
I made my 4 strips about 5 inches long and 1 inch wide.
Sew all the strips together with the WRONG sides facing together so the seams are on the front of the fabric (if you want the scrappy look. If you want a more clean quilt stripe look, sew with the right sides together).

Then use your pinking shears to trim each seam allowance off, as close to the stitch line as you can without cutting through it.

Then, cut the entire “quilt” in half so you have two pieces of stripes to use, one for each egg earring.

Step 4. Sew The Strips To The Felt
Place the felt egg on the back of one strip piece.

Place it under the sewing machine with the felt egg on the top. Sew around the perimeter of the egg as close to the edge as you can, about 1/8th’s inch.

When you are done sewing, trim away the rest of the fabric stripes to match the shape of the felt.

Then repeat this step with the other egg!
Step 5. Attach The Earring Hooks
Use your craft awl, pin, or fat needle to poke a hole at the top of both eggs, close to the edge, but not so close that the hole will rip. This is where you will attach the jump rings.

Use your pliers to slightly open a jump ring, and slide it into the hole you just made on the egg. Then use the pliers to re-close the jump ring.

Then use your pliers to gently, slightly open the ring on the bottom of the earring hook. Place the jump ring into the ring on the bottom of the earring hook, making sure the egg is facing the right way when you hold the hook up. Then, close the ring at the bottom of the earring hook.

Now you have one earring!

Repeat this step with the other egg.
Now you are done!
