Inches To Yardage Fabric Calculator

Step 1: Enter the number of inches of fabric length you need.
Step 2: Press Convert, and the calculator will tell you how many yards (rounded up to the nearest 1/8th yard) your input number will fit on!
NOTE: I recommend adding a little bit extra to make sure you have enough.

About The Yardage Calculator

I wanted to create this tool because a regular “inches to yards” calculator works, but doesn’t give you the answer in a format that is convenient for cutting fabric.

Fabric is commonly cut using fractions of a yard (not decimals) and 1/8th’s are the most common cut of all. (Thirds are common too.)

It is true that you could just tell the worker at the fabric counter how many inches you want, but then the issue is the pricing. Fabric is almost always priced by the yard, and if you are able to say: “I need 2 and 3/8ths yards” instead of “I need 85 inches” then it becomes easier to cut AND to price.

In addition, when you are purchasing fabric online, you are limited to eighth’s-yardage cuts, which makes a tool like this necessary.

I hope this calculator is useful for you and helps you speed up your sewing! You can also refer to the chart below if you want to figure it out manually or print it out to have in your sewing room.

I make no guarantee that information on this website is always 100% accurate, so make sure to double check your work! Measure twice, cut once!

Yardage Conversions Table

The following table lists out inches, centimeters, and the corresponding yardage measurements in increments of 1/8ths of a yard!

This table will help you figure out how much fabric to purchase if you aren’t sure the measurement of yards you need, but you do know the inches or centimeters. (This is basically just a chart version of the calculator tool above, but it also has centimeters!)
