Note: I have included the following gathering density options:
- Light Gather (a 2x’s width gather)
- Moderate Gather (a 3x’s width gather. This is a good general gathered skirt option.)
- Heavy Gather (a 4x’s width gather)
Generally speaking, the heavier the fabric, the less of a gather it can handle. Very lightweight fabrics can handle extreme gathers of 4 times the hip circumference or more.
A 1.5 times the HIP circumference gather is possible to sew, but does not allow for comfortable walking, so it is not included in this calculator.
