About The Sewing Cards

Sewing cards are a fun activity where kids get to practice using their hands and fingers to thread. Make sure to supervise young kids when they play with the long string.

To make the string or ribbon easier for my kids to lace, I like to tape the end of it. (Or you can just use a shoelace!)

Supplies & Materials Needed

  • Printed Sewing cards (See my printing recommendations below)
  • Scissors
  • Standard handheld office hole punch (1/4 inch hole size)
  • Yarn or ribbon with the ends taped about 1-2 inches (or you can use a real shoelace!)

How To Download & Print Your Cards

To download the free sewing cards, simply enter your email into the box below and I will send the file to your email inbox. The file is a 2 page PDF, in full color.

To make sure your cards are reusable, they need to be made on sturdy paper. Here are some options:

  • Print them on cardstock and laminate them
  • Print them on regular paper and glue them to a thicker craft cardboard
  • Take the file to a print shop so they can laminate it for you

Whatever you use, make sure the material is sturdy, yet thin enough to punch holes through.

When printing the cards at home, I recommend selecting the “fit to printable area” option, just to make sure nothing gets cut off.

Squirrel & Acorn Sewing Card Instructions

Print and laminate the cards (or glue them on board) as described above.

Then, punch out the white holes with a handheld hole punch.

The holes fit a standard 1/4 inch hold puncher.

After punching out all the holes, your card is ready to thread!

One way my kids like to thread their cards is by having me tie a really big knot on one end of the string so it doesn’t slide through.

You can do that, or let them have the string loose so they can use both sides of it.

If you want, you can also print these cards on regular copy paper like I did here, so they can be sent easily in the mail or used just once.
