I have created a set of super CUTE lacing cards that I’m giving away FREE. Simply download, print, punch, and sew for a fun St. Patrick’s day activity!

Sewing cards and lacing cards are a great activity to introduce in your classroom, homeschool, or just at home.

They integrate the theme of your studies in a hands on game that also teaches kids several valuable sewing skills!

Sewing cards are a popular fine-motor activity for kids ages 3 and up, and can be reused again and again.

About The Sewing Cards

These cards are great for ages 3-9 or so. But because of the long string, make sure your small child is supervised while using the cards.

You can use ribbon or yarn with these sewing cards if you don’t have a lace. To make it easier to thread the ribbon or string, tape the end of it like in the image below.

Supplies & Materials Needed

  • Printed Sewing cards (See my printing recommendations below)
  • Scissors
  • Standard handheld office hole punch (1/4 inch hole size)
  • Yarn or ribbon with the ends taped about 1-2 inches (or you can use a real shoelace!)

How To Download & Print Your Cards

To download the free sewing cards, simply enter your email into the box below and I will send the file to your email inbox. The file is a 2 page PDF, in full color.

To make sure your cards are reusable, they need to be made on sturdy paper. Here are some options:

  • Print them on cardstock and laminate them
  • Print them on regular paper and glue them to a thicker craft cardboard
  • Take the file to a print shop so they can laminate it for you

Whatever you use, make sure the material is sturdy, yet thin enough to punch holes through.

When printing the cards at home, I recommend selecting the “fit to printable area” option, just to make sure nothing gets cut off.

St. Patrick’s Day Sewing Card Instructions

After you have printed and laminated your cards, use a hole punch to punch out holes at each white space around the edges of the card.

I had to use a heart shaped hole punch because I can’t find the regular one…

Then, prepare a string with tape on the end, or use a shoelace to thread through the holes!

The first time a child practices threading a card, I like to let them do it however I want. After some practice, you can introduce some other options for them to try, such as wrapping the string around the edges of each hole, or backstitching.
