Things To Consider When Making DIY Home Decor
When making my own home decor I am mainly trying to do two things: match my own style, and save my family money.
This being said, you should know that sometimes sewing your own items does NOT save money if you buy expensive materials! That is why I like to do so much upcycling.
Here are a few more items to consider when sewing your own home decor:
- Choose fabrics that complement your existing decor.
- Consider the size and shape of the item you are making to ensure it fits your space properly. (I once made a shower curtain and didn’t measure very well, it wasn’t quite wide enough, so it looked a little weird!
- Take measurements carefully before cutting so you have the right sizes for each piece. (This is important for you upcyclers who can’t just buy more length of fabric)
- Consider adding details like appliqué, pom-poms, or fringes to make your items more unique.
- Use heat-resistant fabrics and batting for any projects involving hot surfaces such as pot holders.
